St Irene's Knights of Columbus
St. Irene's established a Knights of Columbus Council within the parish in June 2005. St. Irene's Knights, Council 13848, focus on three areas within our families, our parish and our community: Spiritual Growth, Social Action, and Community Service.
Meetings are held in the Parish Hall at 8:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
All interested Catholic men, aged 18 and older, are encouraged to join us to learn about the Knights at St. Irene's.

Saturday, May 6 - Confirmation - St Irene's Knights presented a pair of Rosary Beads to each of the 35 newly Confirmed. The Knights carried the Rosary beads to the altar in the parish Malawi bowl for the blessing by Bishop Walter James Edyvean. The Rosary Beads, a card on How to Pray the Rosary, and a congratulatory card were handed to each newly Confirmed following the ceremony.

Easter - Easter Mass from the Vatican on your local TV station. The Knights of Columbus have covered the cost of the satellite transmissions for the Papal Christmas and Easter Masses since the TV broadcasts began in 1974.

December - Keep Christ in Christmas. Encouraged parishioners to offer a spiritual gift of remembrance at Mass for their loved ones, and made available religious Christmas cards.
December - Christmas party for the Knights and their families. Santa visited with the children.

Annual Tootsie Roll fund raiser to benefit Special Needs Children. Knights were available following all the Masses collecting donations, and distributing Tootsie Rolls.

40 Hour Eucharistic Devotion support.
St Irene's Parish is participating in the "Year of the Eucharist" as proclaimed by Pope John Paul II. For information about the October 2004 - 2005 Year of the Eucharist, Pope John Paul's Encyclical, ECCLESIA DE EUCHARISTIA, is available on-line at the Vatican website.
St Irene's Forty Hour Devotion began with Mass at 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 22, and concluded with Mass at 12 noon on Saturday, September 24. Our Council supported this Parish event.

Sunday, June 12 - Welcome Sunday - The Knights hosted a Hospitality session in the Parish Hall. Coffee and munchies were made available after 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses. Speakers talked about the Knights activities at the Saturday evening Mass, and the Sunday masses. All family members were welcome to enjoy the snack, and learn about the Knights of Columbus opportunities at St. Irene's.

Sunday, May 15, 2005 - Second and Third Degree Ceremonies - Several of St. Irene's Knights completed their second and third degrees at the Maynard Council.
Friday, May 6, 2005 - St. Irene's Confirmation - St. Irene's Knights presented a pair of Rosary Beads to each of the 28 newly Confirmed. Bishop Emilion Allue blessed the Rosaries during the Confirmation ceremony.

Holy Saturday, March 26, 2005 - Red Cross Blood drive - According to the Red Cross, this was the most successful blood drive they have ever held in Carlisle. A record 48 people donated blood. Thanks to all who helped and all who donated blood.
