About St Irene's Parish

Holy FamilySt. Irene is a parish defined by openness, spiritual development, and volunteerism. Through the leadership of its priests and the participation of its parishioners, St. Irene has remained growing and vital. Among its strengths:

Religious education

Managed and taught by members of the parish, the religious education program provides grounding in the faith, preparation for Confirmation, and on-going support for spiritual development. Over 300 students participate in religious education. Spiritual growth is maintained through a teen program, adult speaker series, and lending library available to all.

Community involvement

The St Irene Womens Club and Knights of Columbus sponsor many charitable events throughout the year. The Caring Friends Network supports parishioners in need. Outreach to Africa includes fundraising for projects in Malawi and Rwanda.

Ministries, worship and sacraments

Music and altar ministries involve parishioners in the mass. Devotions outside the usual mass schedule are offered, as is the full range of sacraments.

Social events

The St. Irene Picnic, the Italian Dinner, and the always popular Mystery Theater are just a few of our fun events. A Golf League operates throughout the summer months. A Hospitality Committee provides a monthly social hour after mass.

Financial strength

A Finance Committee of parishioners manages the church’s funds and issues a report that is mailed to all parishioners. Through their efforts and the generosity of parishioners, St. Irene has remained financially strong. The church was built in 1997 by a committee of parishioners and is maintained by a volunteer Building Committee.

Over 850 families are currently registered at St. Irene. The parish map encompasses the Town of Carlisle and the section of Billerica west of Route 3. However, parishioners come from all over, including Acton, Bedford, Chelmsford, Concord, Littleton, and Westford. A long term plan is in place that includes increased cooperation and merging of some parish functions with Holy Family Church in Concord.
